Accelerated Reader is a great way to keep track of books that are read independently. Palm Crest provides a subscription for students so that, as they finish books at school or at home, they can log on to the Accelerated Reader website and take a short comprehension quiz. Students earn points for each book read, and a goal is set by the teacher and the student at the beginning of the year. Although quizzes can only be accessed at school, parents are encouraged to visit the website to view progress toward individual goals. Click on the picture above to access the site.

Increase Your Reading Level
By reading a variety of books that are in their reading range, students can increase their reading level. If they choose books that are too easy, they will likely find enjoyment (important, indeed!), but may not be challenging themselves. If they choose books that are too hard, this can lead to frustration. Use the link at the left to type in the title of a book and find out its reading level. If the book falls within your child's reading range (found on the labels inside their agendas), it should be a good match.
